1,600 race in Tagum City Phoenix Night Run; Nerza wins 21k

1,600 runners raced in the Phoenix Night Run in Tagum City on Saturday, May 21, 2011, with participants coming from Tagum and all over Mindanao.

It took Brokenshire College’s Anthony Nerza just 1 hour and 10 minutes to run from the New Tagum City Hall and back, and female winner Cynthia Jaro 1 hour and 31 minutes to finish. Joselito Dugos (1:12:50) and Elmer Bartolo (1:13:33) came second and third for men, and Monalisa Ambasa (1:31:29) and April Diaz (1:32:48) at second and third for women.

In the 10k race, Brian Lupio came first at 33:40 for men and Judilyn Miranda at 42:10 for women. They were followed by Arnie Macareñas and Criselyn Jaro, and Jonel Boncit and Cellie Rose Jaro, at second and third.

Fifteen minutes and 39 seconds was all Daniel Diego needed to finish first at the 5k race, while female winner Diane Memoracion clocked in at 19:14. At second and third places were Angelito Sibayan and Emily Avergonzado, and Roel Mahinay and Vivian Avergonzado, respectively.

Finishing first at the 3k race for 12 years old and under were Dorold Dojo for boys, and Lara June Gayramara for girls. James Lloyd Guibone and Clarim Dojo came in second, while Von Harris Lavega and Marife Nerio finished third.

Other fun events in the Phoenix Night Run included a raffle and the Jazz Up your Singlet contest.

The Run was themed “Dagan Para Sa Pinoy-anan,” for the benefit of the government of Tagum’s “Bahay Lingap Program” which provides free house renovation to less fortunate residents of the city.

The Tagum City Phoenix Night Run is presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines and organized by Vantage Sports Promotions.

It is a part of the Tagum Summer Sports Festival 2011 which kicked off on May 21, and will end on May 28, 2011.
